My Baby Knows

I like to cry alone, I like to take my time
A little doin’ nothin’ is really no big crime
I always tell the truth, or just a little lie
And when it comes to love, boys, I keep it eye to eye

‘Cause my baby knows when to trust me
And my baby knows how to bust me
My baby knows, my baby knows

My baby knows the score before the game begins
She says there ain’t no loser, everybody wins
Now, some might smile and smirk, and revel in their pride
But life is for livin’, she says, let’s just enjoy the ride

My baby knows, she just kills me
My baby knows she fulfills me
My baby knows, my baby knows

This old world has its troubles– Anger, Fear and Pain
Greed and Indigestion, meet the starving and the lame
And Love is still the answer, that’s just right as rain
Love and sweet Compassion will make and keep you sane

And my baby knows how I love her
My baby glows like no other
My baby knows, my baby knows

New Old Friend

Seems the miles go on forever, they don’t stop, never, they just go and go and go…go and go
And it really doesn’t matter if they go fast or they go slow
Sooner or later they all fold into the flow
Sooner or later they just fold into the flow

Here the clouds are like the ceiling, and rainbows will surround you like the sea
When the raindrops soar like diamonds, velvet diamonds floating free
You can watch them ride the trade winds, off the mountain, out to sea
Off the mountain, through the valley, out to sea

There’s so many friendly faces, I feel at home in places I’ve never been
And it’s more than just a feeling; it’s the spirit of a place that lets you in
And they say that spirit’s not just here; you find it everywhere you go
If you pay attention right, you find it everywhere you go

But the hours pass for real, and the days press on toward leaving in the end
Maybe the end of a beginning, you never know what lies around the bend
But I do know, where I’m going, I will think about my new old friend
Yes, I’ll sit and play a tune or two and think about my new old friend

But the years go on forever, they don’t stop, never, they just go and go and go…and go and go
And it’s really hard to tell, sometimes, if they go fast or they go slow
And now some say that they all converge somewhere up around the bend
If that’s true I’ll play some music there with my new old friend
If it’s true I’ll play some music there with a few old friends

Filling Up the Moon

There’s magic in not touching…where crystal moments tread
Finishing my sentences…Things I left unsaid
As if, somehow, you knew my heart before you knew my name
As if, somehow, the world had flown…Only this remained

There’re rivers in the stars tonight…Somewhere It’s high noon
And rivers flowing off the Sun are filling up the Moon

After oh so many years, a tree is like a home
Roots so deep, and spread so wide, cling fast to what is known
And “This can never be” they cry…Borne upon the wind
Words that fall like freezing rain, burning on your skin

There’re rivers in the stars tonight…Somewhere it’s high noon
And rivers flowing off the Sun are filling up the Moon

I never saw it coming…And now I’ve got to go
Crystal moments, Setting Suns, fade to afterglow
And there’s magic in not touching…Not knowing why the Moon
While knowing this can never be too late or too soon

There’re rivers in the stars tonight…Somewhere it’s high noon
And rivers flowing off the Sun are filling up the Moon
There’re rivers in the stars tonight…somewhere it’s high noon
And rivers flowing off the Sun are filling up the Moon
Rivers flowing off the Sun are filling up the Moon

Look Forward

I talked to mom today…sure sounds good
She almost always does…knock on wood
She told me Dad was out, playin’ cards with friends
And she was lookin’ through her letters and loose ends
Old letters and loose ends

We talked about the Hollyhocks…hardy beauty at its best
Some people call ‘em weeds…like they don’t pass some kinda test
She always gives them water, just to make it clear
Those wild Hollyhocks are always welcome here
Friends are always welcome here

“I’m makin’ compost now, for tomatoes in the spring”
“Tonight we’ll visit friends…folks who just moved in”
“Last week I saw the doctor, can’t recall her name”
“But she was very nice…and we could use some rain”
“We sure could use some rain”

We talked a while…She made me smile…And I could hear her smiling to
And when the time had come to say “good bye” she said “good to talk to you”…“Look forward”

So, I said I’d call again tomorrow…and have a chat with Dad
See what he’s been reading…what kind of luck he had
Did he take those nice ladies last nickels and dimes?
Or did the ol’ Stud Poker rob him blind
Hell, he don’t mind
Isabel Allende’s book, Julia, he always finds the gold
Stories for a dying daughter…and the mysteries hearts can hold
Loving memories…doubts…dreams of bliss
Days that feel like years and years that pass like this
Years that pass like this

“Did I say I’m makin’ compost now…for tomatoes in the spring?”
“Tonight we’re goin’ somewhere…I think some new folks just moved in”
“Saw a nice young doctor … can’t remember when”
“Hey, I should let you go but please do call again”
“Please do call again?”

We talked a while…She made me smile…And I could hear her smiling to
And when the time had come to say “good bye” she said “good to talk to you”…“Look forward”

So I think about the time we spend…The laughter and the tears
The music and the horse play…and those nagging nighttime fears
They built a road for us…Exits left and right Said if you’re ever lost just put up for the night
You’ll be alright

Yeah, I talked to Mom today…sure sounds good
She almost always does…Knock on wood
She told me Dad was out, playin’ cards with friends
And she was lookin’ though her letters and loose ends
Old letters and loose ends

We talked a while…She made me smile…And I could hear her smiling to
And when the time had come to say “good bye” she said “good to talk to you“…”Look forward”
Look forward…Look forward…Look forward

Little One

Daddy tell me true, is it here to stay?
Is it worth it living, feeling this way?
Can you tell me how? Can you tell me why?
Can you tell me when it goes away?

Little one… close your eyes. Little one… shed your tears.
Little one… hold my hand tight as you can
Little one… take a breath. Little one… let it out
Little one… let your love swallow your doubt

Daddy, where’d she go? Tell me, is she here?
How can she be gone and feel so near?
This aching in my heart, will it burst apart?
Can you take away some of this fear?

Little one… close your eyes. Little one… shed your tears
Little one… hold my hand tight as you can
Little one… take a breath. Little one… let it out
Little one… let your love swallow your doubt

Now I’ll tell you true, it don’t go away
But it won’t flood your mind everyday
Memories will rise, reaching for the Sun
Memories of mischief, laughter and fun

Little one…close your eyes. Little one…can you hear?
Little one…that’s her voice sounding so clear
Little one…hold your breath. Little one…have her count.
Little one…let your memories show the way out
Little one…let your love swallow your doubt

Sleepwalker in Paradise

Woke up early when I heard the sound…Rubbed my eyes…Looked around
Saw the ceiling…I saw the light…The blazing Sun chasing off the night
I got some water from the kitchen sink…Went outside just to sit and think
Wild flowers blooming on the lawn…Shiny dew in the light of dawn
It’s a miracle…that’s when it came to me
Everything I see…That this has come to be…That this has come to me
Sleepwalker in Paradise…I see more when I close my eyes
And watch the dream drifting slowly by…A real Sun in a real sky, that’s a miracle

There are no words… there is no book…To make you see just because you look
To make you know just because you think…Deep inside there’s a missing link
It’s always there, it’s always true…Being becoming something new
Well, that’s the source some might say…But that’s a question for another day
It’s a miracle that we’re even here
On a night so clear…And your eyes so deep…Love that makes me weep
Sleepwalker in Paradise…I think I’ve seen it maybe once or twice
But just a shimmer and it slips away…Now I’m lookin’ for it every day…Every day

Skin is thin and blood is thick…The baby cries ‘cause the baby’s sick
It doesn’t matter where the baby’s from…That baby’s cryin’ for someone to come
The question is: Do we hoard or share? The question is: Do we kill or care?
The question is: What’s a family worth? Are we a family on this living Earth?
Wars will come and go…Why we never know
But war can really end…And you can be my friend
Dissolving miles into digital smiles
I send mine to you…You send me one to
Sleepwalker in Paradise…I see less when I open my eyes
All the words, all the chatter…Isn’t real…doesn’t matter
I’ve got to touch, I’ve got to feel…Let my senses say what is real
You’ve got to know that it’s bigger than you…You’ve got to know you belong here to

It’s here in me, it’s there in you…All that’s good and all that’s true
Like a river flowing underground…Listen close, try to hear the sound of a miracle

Find a Way

Dreams can break and still not die
Love remains where people try
Not the same, that’s for sure
Some things change, some endure
Maybe we can find a way
I know we can find a way
And you know we can find a way
Tomorrow’s still another day
And we don’t have to carry on
We don’t have to scream and shout
Let’s just turn the volume down
And find a way to work things out

Years go by and things get said
Diapers changed and babies fed
Off to school, off to roam
Back to two still at home
Maybe we can find a way
I know we can find a way
And you know we can find a way
Tomorrow still another day
And we don’t have to carry on
We don’t have to fuss and fight
Let’s just turn the volume down
And find a way to make things right

Maybe we can find a way
I know we can find a way
And I know you know we can find a way
Tomorrow’s still another day
And it don’t have to be like this
Think about the things you miss
Maybe we can find it here
Give it just another year

Eye Dozed On

My coffee’s cold this mornin’…‘Cause I went back to bed
I closed my eyes completely…To clear my weary head
And I dozed off as Eye dozed on
Further on up the river…I found an old canoe
I climbed in to cross over…Seemed like the thing to do
As I dozed on…I dozed on

Now the current it was steady…Steady like a clock
The water started singin’…and made that cradle rock
As I dozed on…As I dozed on and on…I dozed on…I dozed on

Climbing out on the far shore…I knew just what to do
Lookin’ back down the river…I saw that old canoe
But I dozed on…I just dozed on
Now the trail was ascending…And the mountain it was steep
I woke up and I asked myself…If I was still asleep
As I dozed on…I just dozed on

Little man coming down the trail…I spied him from afar
Gliding gently down that slope…Like honey from a jar
As I dozed on…As I dozed on and on…I dozed on…I just dozed on

Little man stared me square in the eye, he said “Which side are you on?”
That’s when I fell out of bed…And little man was gone
So I dozed on…I just dozed on
So you might say I’m crazy…But I say it’s a fact
The future’s really just the past when you start turning back
So I doze on…I doze on

And the summit it’s still looming…While the sky is losing light
But stars will shine like blazing flowers in the garden of the night
As I doze on…As I doze on and on…I doze on…I doze on
I doze on and on…I doze on and on and on and on and on…I doze on

Let’em Be the Last

Medger Evers died in the year of ‘63
Felled at his home by some assassins gun
He fought for the cause of freedom in our land
And he died for it with love in his right hand

Let’em be the last, brothers…Let’em be the last
Let’em be the last to die for you and I…Let’em be the last to die for love

John Kennedy filled the lives and hearts of people in this land
With a youthfulness and hope they’d never felt
He was shot and killed while still a youthful man
Seemed the whole world cried when the blow was dealt

Let’em be the last, brothers…Let’em be the last
Let’em be the last to die for you and I…Let’em be the last to die for love

Martin Luther King was a man of peaceful ways
Non-violence was the doctrine that he taught
Someone shot his body in the state of Tennessee
But we all know that a spirit can’t be shot

Let’em be the last, brothers…Let’em be the last
Let’em be the last to die for you and I…Let’em be the last to die for love

Robert Francis Kennedy fought for human rights
And he fought to bring us peace in Viet Nam
He was shot and killed on a June election night
Let’s keep his dreams alive, I know we can

Let’em be the last, brothers…Let’em be the last
Let’em be the last to die for you and I
Let’em be the last to die for love

Yeah, they gunned down Medger Evers and they murdered Reverend King
And they shot those Kennedy brothers down to die
But they cannot shot our dreams of world peace and human rights
And I pity those who feel the need to try

Let’em be the last, brothers…Let’em be the last
Let’em be the last to die for you and I
Let’em be the last to die for love
Let’em be the last, brothers…Let’em be the last
Let’em be the last to die for you and I
Let’em be the last to die for love
